Mini Coaching Opportunities

The Club's aim is to have every Mini age group with at least one RFU Level 1 qualified coach - ideally, one per squad where there are a large number of children to coach.  This is important for the quality of coaching the children will receive and is essential for the club to maintain its coveted quality standard.

Course Content

Coaching Young People

This two-and a half hour indoor course has been designed to help coaches have a better understanding of the competitive make up of children and be aware of the appropriate physical and emotional demands to place on young people. The course challenges and informs through workshop activities and explores the issues around clubs and player's needs, individual and team, development and success. Through this course individuals and clubs will be better equipped to develop an approach which keeps young players in the game.

IRB Rugby Ready

Everybody involved in coaching, refereeing and playing rugby needs a sense of safe practice. The IRB Rugby Ready programme is intended to raise awareness of good practice and help stakeholders manage the inherent risks of the sport by putting appropriate safeguards in place.
   

Coaching Children Rugby Union
(RFU Level 1)

You must have completed the 'Rugby Ready' course before embarking on Level 1.  The course consist of pre-course reading, 2 practical days (these are usually Sundays) and one theory evening (usually a Wednesday).  The Club will pay your course fees.

Continuous Personal Development Courses

Scrum Factory

The Scrum Factory aims to increase the number of players able to play in the scrum effectively and safely, particularly the front row. By helping coaches and players to understand individual and collective techniques required, together with position specific conditioning, this 2.5 hour practical course covers physical preparation, body management and body shape.

Continuity in Attack

By the end of this course, coaches will have a better understanding of and material to coach, continuity of possession in the contact area by appropriate and effective support to utilise the ball carrier's needs and options.

Back Play from Set Piece

By the end of this course, coaches will have a better awareness of back-line options in attack from 1st phase. Have ideas on how to improve back-line attack from 1st phase. Be able to show how to "fix and hold" defences through attacking at pace. Be able to develop thinking, innovative players, able to attack without a reliance on strike moves.

Maul & Ruck

By the end of this module, coaches will have a better understanding of and the tools to coach continuity of possession in the Maul & Ruck area by appropriate and effective support to utilise the ball carrier's needs and options.
